“Our group of four, mainly from Huntercombe Golf Club had two rounds at Hollinwell in August and we all enjoyed it immensely. The course is truly one of the best – up there with the really great UK courses. Willie Park Jnr’s original design has stood the test of time and the course still offers a wonderful challenge to golfers of all levels.

We all felt that the course was presented beautifully: the tees were superb, fairways immaculate and the greens were very special, and of the finest quality, being both fast and extremely true. They were also difficult because of the subtle borrows and gentle slopes – a birdie is a real treat (and we had a few!).

On the second day, we started at 9.30 and had the course to ourselves with no one in front and no one behind – real millionnaires golf and we felt very privileged as the sun was shinning and there was a gentle breeze. As you would expect though with a course of the quality of Hollinwell, it got busy later in the day.

We were made very welcome in the clubhouse, both by the staff and members and the food was excellent. Looking up the 18th fairway from the bar in the clubhouse is one of the special views in golf: nearly as good as looking out of the window of the Big Room in the R&A clubhouse at St Andrews.

We all felt that Hollinwell was worth every penny of the green fee and we will certainly return next year.”

“The first thing that strikes you as you come onto the property is how aesthetically beautiful it is. The layout of the grounds is just right. The placement of the clubhouse can't be better with great views of the golf course and surrounding hills, you really get the sense of how big the course and surrounding area are.

I found the golf course to be straight forward and not gimmicky. It rewards good shots but doesn't over penalize poor ones. Wouldn't it be great if all courses were like that? The true test of a course is that it should require you to hit different shots and Hollinwell does that. You must drive it as straight as your tie and be precise with your approaches. There is a nice mix of short holes and long ones. It's a great test of your game but very fair.

I've played a lot of famous courses and said, "ok, I don't need to come back here" but just the opposite is true of Hollinwell, I can't wait to come back. It's playing golf on your own private preserve and it doesn't get any better than that.”
